Research and Development Intern

Our summer internships provide ambitious undergraduates the chance to gain real world experience in their field of study. We provide challenging, professional experience with a global corporation, where you learn from and work alongside Donaldson employees. Internships take place at our global headquarters in Bloomington, MN, over a 10-12 week period.

Our Media Technology group within our Corporate Technology department is looking for an Intern to help develop new membrane technology. If you are a creative innovator who is looking to influence an industry leader through research and development, this role will excite you. Working alongside a team of scientists and engineers, you will develop new membranes and expand the uses of existing membranes to be used across our portfolio of filtration products. Successful candidates may have some base knowledge of polymers or materials science and interest in developing skills in an R&D laboratory as well as data analysis.

Job Responsibilities:

Assist or lead in projects to assess and develop technical capability for novel polymer membranes in terms of knowledge, processes, and development methods.Refer to patent and academic literature to generate experimental plans towards novel membrane development.Uses sound statistical methods to design experiments and analyze test results.Compiles experiments and results into technical project reports and presents findings to both peers and project leaders.

Minimum Qualifications:

Currently enrolled undergraduate rising junior/current sophomore or rising senior/current junior in an accredited program pursuing a bachelor’s degree in: Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field.Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous laboratory experience, preferably in academic or industrial research labs.Energetic self-starter who seeks innovative solutions.Experience or familiarity with polymer/material science analytical methods (FTIR, TGA, DSC, etc.).Ability to communicate effectively to small and large groups.Minimum 3.0 out of a 4.0 cumulative GPA.

Hourly Pay Range: $23.00 - 27.00, depending on projected undergraduate graduation date, educational degree in progress and major of study upon time of hire.

This position is overtime eligible as per state and federal regulations.
