The Cancer Early Detection Advanced Research (CEDAR) center is a collaborative institution within the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute. You will have a detailed knowledge of all aspects of laboratory research and be comfortable working individually and in highly collaborative teams. We are developing exciting new ex vivo tissue models coupled to cell signaling biosensors and live-to-cell microscopy approaches to enable real-time studies of tumor-host interactions. Our long-term goal is to determine how tumor-host interactions regulate single-cell drug response phenotypes and leverage these findings to enhance drug efficacy. To assist in the conduct of these studies, we are currently hiring for a highly motivated Research Assistant 1.
We are looking for applicants with expertise in cell signaling, time-lapse microscopy, and optogenetics to conduct work in some of the following general areas:
Generating, testing, and implementing biosensor cell lines for drug response studiesOptimizing and conducting live-cell microscopy experiments in cell lines and novel ex-vivo tissue models.Performing and optimizing optogenetic experiments in ex-vivo tissue models and cell lines.Performing basic image analysis and data interpretation using Python and MATLABCEDAR laboratory research:
Always exemplifies and promotes CEDAR cultureUnder close supervision, participates in research execution of CEDAR program(s), and performs other general laboratory techniquesProvides stability and continuity of knowledge as people and projects changeMeets regularly with lab managers to identify potential synergies and reduce inefficiencies across projectsActs as a project backup – must be able to fill in for multiple project needs. This will be especially important in the early stages of CEDAR. All CEDAR laboratory operations personnel are expected to fulfill multiple roles especially while CEDAR grows.Laboratory Organization and Compliance:
Under close supervision, manage project samples and ensure project data is properly recorded and storedAssist in the organization of program workspaceOther Functions and Duties:
Serve as secondary support for overall lab function by maintaining equipment, ordering supplies, and troubleshooting instrument problemsAdditional duties as assigned by the project leader or laboratory managerProtected Work Time: Protected time for non-research-related CEDAR work, including time for CEDAR Council, Infrastructure, DEI, Engagement, Professional Development, etc. Required QualificationsEducation & Experince:
