Full-time Research Assistant 2 position in the translational research laboratory of Dr. Markus Grompe. This position supports efforts to develop novel gene-therapy based treatments for the inherited genetic diseases Fanconi anemia and phenylketonuria, as well as diseases of the liver and pancreas. Primary responsibilities (over 50%) include managing a transgenic rodent colony which includes animal handling related to drug administration, sample collection, surgery, and euthanasia. Additional responsibilities include PCR, genotyping, general molecular biology procedures such as RNA and DNA extraction, ELISA, preparing laboratory reagents, cell culturing and assisting researchers with experiments. Applicant will attend weekly lab meetings and present research upon request. Occasionally, rodent colony maintenance will require weekend work.

Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Life sciences field OR Associate's AND 3 years of relevant experience OR 4 years of relevant experience OR Equivalent combination of training and experience.Highly organized and have excellent attention to detail. Maintaining experimental records.Ability to take direction and work in a collaborative environmentAbility to use e-mail, word processing and spreadsheet for data recording. Preferred Qualifications 2+ years experience in a laboratory setting working with live animals.Previous Rodent colony management. Genotyping by PCR.OHSU rodent safety.HIPPA training.
