POSITION SUMMARY:
The Department of Mining and Materials Engineering at McGill University is seeking a highly motivated and skilled part-time Research Assistant 2 to assist the Research Supervisor in conducting research projects. This position involves identifying typical challenges relating to tailings management, such as confronting topographical challenges and opportunities that affect strategies for subaqueous storage of sulphide-rich tailings that would be prone to causing acid mine drainage.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Identify topographical challenges and opportunities that affect strategies for subaqueous storage of sulphide-rich tailings.
Prepare written and oral commentary on some typical challenges for a series of real and fictitious scenarios confronted in tailings engineering
Assist in the development of a virtual reality representation for a tailings management facility
Identifies and summarizes relevant publicly available technical documentation on specific tailings operations.
Qualifications:
Possesses a Master’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a similar field relating to tailings management
Experience with Virtual Reality devices is an asset
Excellent written and oral communication skills;
Open to learning domain-specific aspects of the mining industry;
Well-organised and self-motivated.
