Research Assistant
The Department of Neurology is seeking a **_Research Assistant_** for the Language Neuromodulation Laboratory to support an NIH-funded project on the effects of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in neurodegenerative disease, specifically PPA and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The project is devoted to the study of language intervention(s) and neuroplasticity in PPA and AD. The research aim is to understand the effectiveness of behavioral and neuromodulator interventions, as well as the brain mechanisms they involve using neuroimaging (structural MRI, DTI, fMRI, resting state fMRI, and MR spectroscopy). **Specific Duties & Responsibilities** + Contact potential participants, coordinate their record acquisition, perform language/cognitive evaluations, maintain and manage imaging databases, perform preprocessing of data in different imaging modalities including EEG data, perform cognitive/language assessments, statistical analyses, computerize experimental tasks, and develop coding for data analysis. + Conduct behavioral assessments for participants with language and cognitive deficits. + Perform EEG acquisition and analysis using experience or following training. + Maintain databases and become proficient in performing statistical analyses. + Participate in the evaluation of participants in a range of standardized language and cognitive tasks; deliver a pre-determined speech and language training session, archive language, cognitive and therapy results, maintain patients’ files, and analyze oral and written therapy data. + Work collaboratively with undergraduate and doctoral students, post-doctoral fellows, speech-language pathologists, and other faculty members of the Johns Hopkins community. + Present research at conferences and assist in writing papers. **Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities** + Data management skills. **Minimum Qualifications** + Bachelor's Degree in related discipline. + Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. + Must be comfortable working with patients with neurodegenerative syndromes. **Preferred Qualifications** + Computational and coding skills. + Prior experience with people with EEG or MRI research. + Programming experience and computational skills with ePrime, Matlab and/or R.
