Job DescriptionThe Research Assistant will support preclinical studies at all stages by executing cardiac, behavioral, and muscle-based functional outcomes to characterize rodent models and assist in testing drug efficacy. The role requires multitasking abilities, strong communication skills, organizational skills, and adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP). The Research Assistant will perform outcomes following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and study specifications, often working independently and demonstrating proficiency in rodent handling.
ResponsibilitiesExecute functional outcomes including open-field assessment, grip strength, gait analysis, plethysmography, ECG, etc.Support Animal Outcomes staff in setting up and performing outcomes, including quality checking and inputting data.Assist in ordering and stocking inventory, and perform routine equipment cleaning and maintenance.Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Study Protocols.Document with strict adherence to Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).Humanely and confidently handle rodents.Essential SkillsAnimal husbandryAnimal handlingAnimal scienceVivarium experienceAnimal researchAdditional Skills & QualificationsBachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a Life Science FieldPassionate about animal welfarePrior experience in laboratory animal handling and restraint techniquesAbility to work as part of a team with strong organizational skillsAbility to multitask in a fast-paced environment with changing prioritiesStrong documentation skills and attention to detailStrong communication skills and ability to follow verbal instructionsStrong understanding and ability to follow laboratory methods and SOPsProficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPointWork Environment
This is a lab environment where the Research Assistant will spend most of their day working with animals and some time working at a desk. The facility is a new state-of-the-art setup in a growing startup company focused on cell and gene therapy manufacturing.
