Job Description:
The Brown University Transgenic and Genome Editing Facility (the former Mouse Transgenic and Gene Targeting Facility) is seeking applicants for the position of Research Assistant to generate genetically modified mouse and rat models. The position's primary responsibilities include microinjection or electroporation of CRISPR reagents into mouse or rat embryos, surgical embryo implantation, performing in vitro fertilization, and cryopreserving sperm and embryos. Training for these special skills can be provided after hire.
The Brown University transgenic facility mainly supports the investigators in using genetically modified mouse and rat models on campus and in affiliated hospitals. The facility also serves other institutions across the nation at different rates. These services include molecular design, transgenic and knock-out mouse and rat model generation, and general advice on using and managing such models.
This is a fixed-term position with a current end date of three years from hire, which may be extended based upon available funding.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Animal Science or a related field
Required: 1-2 years of experience working in a biological research or clinical lab
Experience working with mice or rats is a plus
Experience working with a dissection microscope is a plus
Experience successfully performing rodent survival surgery is highly desired
And/or the equivalent combination or education and experience

Background criminal and education check required.
