Who We Are The Department of Oceanography in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University (TAMU) is part of an alliance of Ocean Sciences at Texas A&M that spans the Marine Biology and Marine Sciences Departments at TAMU Galveston, Geochemical and Environmental Research Group. What We Want The Research Assistant will provide skilled, administrative, and technical support in research. The selected candidate will assist with phases in a research project and prepare proposals for funding agencies, operations of research equipment, and other lab/field personnel in research. Additionally, the Research Assistant will collaborate with other research personnel. What You Need to Know + Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience + Schedule: The selected candidate must be able to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines. Must be able to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat + Special Note: This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance Required Education and Experience: + Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: + Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software + Strong attention to detail + Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing + Ability to keep careful written and electronic records of work performed + Ability to positively and professionally interact with staff and group members + Strong interpersonal and organizational skills + Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others + Ability to work independently and organize your daily and weekly schedules effectively and efficiently Preferred Qualifications: + Related experience in specialized and relevant field of research + Familiarity measuring inorganic and organic nutrient concentrations in seawater samples + Familiarity with stable isotope ratio mass spectrometers + Familiarity with Thermo Qtegra software Responsibilities: + Research: Conducts and coordinates experiments in support of various research projects. Selects, and applies standard techniques of routine research, keeping detailed records of data. Assists in the installation and operation of research equipment. May repair research equipment. Uses computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results. Evaluates and summarizes experiment results. Stores data in shared repository to meet Data Management requirements. + Training: Trains undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research. + Research Publications: Assists in preparing figures and statistics for research publication as needed/requested.
