What We Want
The Research Assistant will be involved in research examining factors that influence tissue loss after neural injury. The selected candidate will be responsible for animal surgery, behavioral testing, tissue collect, tissue preparation, and cellular assays (e.g., western blotting, ELISA). In addition, the Research Assistant will need to enter/maintain data logs, assist trainees as needed, and catalog/order research supplies.
What You Need to Know
+ Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience.
+ Special Note: Because all or a portion of your salary may be funded by grants or contracts, your continuing salary and overall employment is contingent upon availability of these funds in the future. This position will require export-control authorization prior to starting employment.
Required Education and Experience:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Neuroscience, Biology, related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Ability to conduct rodent surgeries, behavioral assessments, and tissue collection
+ Ability to physically interact and work with rodents
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Some experience with cellular assays, histology, and tissue sectioning
+ Research experience in the area of spinal cord injury
+ Past experience with rodent surgeries, behavioral assessment, and tissue collection
Responsibilities:
+ Effort Animal surgeries: Performs neural injuries, ovariectomies, and catheter implantations
+ Cellular assays/histology: Performs western blotting, tissue staining, and microscopy
+ Behavioral testing: Assesses locomotor and cardiovascular function
+ Tissue collection: Collects blood and the region of neural injury
+ Ordering: Orders supplies
+ Data entry: Maintains data records
