Position Summary:

The Indian Ocean World Centre (IOWC) at McGill University seeks one (1) part-time undergraduate research assistant. Their primary responsibility will be to facilitate the IOWC’s research activities and events, including through collection, cleaning, analysis, and visualisation of data from historical and climatological sources. Their work will contribute to the development of a bespoke database on human-environment interaction in the Indian Ocean World, past and present, and to the dissemination of the centre’s research. Qualifications:

We expect undergraduate students with a demonstrated interest in history or geography to be particularly interested in this posting, though we are by no means limiting our search to students in those fields.

The following skills and experiences would be advantageous:

Familiarity with historical sources and methods e.g. archival research.Familiarity with mapping software.Experience with data cleaning, management, and analysis.Strong communication skills.Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
