The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI) is seeking a part-time Research Assistant (RA) who will help support a community-engaged research project in Lawrence, MA. Under the direction of the Postdoctoral Fellow leading the project, the RA will assist in planning and delivering a youth-facing curriculum in Lawrence. The program aims to teach youth from groups underrepresented in science about health communications research and support them in developing surveys and evidence-based messaging on cancer prevention and other topics. This position will work as part of the Viswanath Lab led by Dr. K. “Vish” Viswanath.

Responsibilities

The RA will join the DFCI research team in attending and facilitating workshop sessions with the youth in Lawrence once per week. Additionally, the RA will help plan content for the sessions, evaluate prior sessions, compile the materials needed for each session, and organize miscellaneous logistics. The RA may have the opportunity to be a co-author on a manuscript based on this program.

Qualifications

Requirements

Interest in working with youth is a MUST. Prior experience working with youth is preferred, but not required.Interest in community engagement. Prior experience working with community partners is preferred, but not required.Available to go to Lawrence (about 30 miles outside of Boston) once per week on Tuesdays from February 25th through May 13th to support and help facilitate the curriculum with youth. These visits will be 4-5 hours each from approximately 4:30pm to 9:30pm, including transportation time. Transportation from Boston to Lawrence will be provided if needed.Available to meet with the DFCI research team twice weekly over Zoom to debrief past sessions and plan following sessions. These meetings will be approximately 1 hour each.Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail.

Preferred

Communications interest and experience, ideally public health-related communications.Experience conducting qualitative research.Bilingual in Spanish and English.
