Job Summary

Summary
The Bevers Laboratory in the BWH Division of Neurocritical Care is seeking a highly motivated individual to assist with ongoing and future research studies. The focus of the laboratory is acute brain injury, including stroke and intracerebral hemorrhage. The individual will be responsible for both laboratory and clinical studies. In the laboratory component, the individual with communicate with PI to plan experiments, execute them independently, analyze data, and communicate results with the lab group. For the clinical study component, the individual will maintain regulatory document compliance, screen the ICU for eligible patients, obtain informed consent, and coordinate blood sample collection and processing. Other responsibilities include neuroimaging analysis, database maintenance and statistical analysis for various other clinical projects. The position combines a laboratory component, including animals studies, with potential for publication and presentation at national meetings, but it also includes opportunities for interaction with patients and families as well as analysis of clinical data sets.

Essential Functions
-Responsible for data collection, management, manipulation, analysis, and reporting.
-Study cohort management.
-Outreach communication with subjects, conducting mailings, follow-up on mailings, and obtaining necessary documents.
-Provides assistance on work related to epidemiological studies and other population-based research.

Specific responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
-Executing lab experiments independently and managing several projects at once.
-Performing animal surgery and research animal colony maintenance.
-Coordinating samples collection, processing, and laboratory analysis.
-Basic statistical analysis and preparation of results/figures for presentation
-Communication with PI to plan experiments and interpret results.
-Participation in weekly lab meeting with monthly presentation of results.
-In-patient recruitment and informed consent for participation in clinical research studies.
-Managing storage and inventory of patient samples, as well as storage of patient medical information in research databases, including Excel and RedCap
-Maintaining IACUC compliance for animal studies.
-Maintaining IRB compliance for clinical studies, including management of regulatory documents, case report forms, and correspondence with study sponsors.
-Data extraction from electronic medical records and neuroimaging analysis.
-Assisting with drafting of project and grant applications .


 

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor's Degree Science required

BS or BA in biology, neuroscience or related field

New grad with some relevant coursework 0-1 year preferred

Prior laboratory research experience preferred

- Must be highly self-motivated and eager to work independently.

- Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques and ability to learn new techniques quickly.

- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high quality data to be used in future acute brain injury research.

- Exceptional maturity and professionalism are essential, as the coordinator is given access to personal and confidential medical information.

- Comfortable interacting with physicians, nurses, and brain-injured patients and their families.

- Must possess strong organization, interpersonal and communication skills.

- Must be articulate in oral and written communication, and able to communicate effectively with individuals of varying backgrounds.

- Able to prioritize multiple tasks and balance the demands of multiple projects.

- Desire to be involved with cutting edge, clinically relevant research.

- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Careful attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
- Computer literacy including database tool.
- Ability to follow directions and exhibit professionalism.
