Research Assistant II - Comparative Medicine (Bastrop, Texas)
This full-time, benefits eligible position is located at the Michale E. Keeling Center for Comparative Medicine and Research in Bastrop, Texas.

SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Research Assistant II position is to provide technical and coordination skills in carrying out various behaviorally-oriented and neurobiological research projects utilizing the primate colonies within the Department of Comparative Medicine. This position may be subject to working in biocontainment areas requiring compliance with specific protocols.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Behavioral Research Support
Individual will help coordinate, collect and conduct behavioral and cognition research, by processing data from activities involving the observation, testing, and neuroimaging. The data will come from animal behavioral observations, systematic automatic testing systems, neurobiological measures collected from different neuroimaging methods, and other records.
Will assist in coordinating behavioral testing schedule and scheduling of neuroimaging sessions.
Will assist with managing the behavioral and neuroimaging data including storge of data in local electronic notebook format.
Will provide daily summaries of individual performance data for all subjects.
Will provide logistical support for other studies carried out in the different testing areas.
Will be able to identify animals and target behaviors.
Collect, organize, summarize and QC data.
Will assist with preliminary data analyses and interpretation of experimental results.

Data Collection, Organization & Dissemination
Duties will include computerized recording of data, verifying data entry, analyzing data, and helping to organize and process reports.
Organize files and data manually and on the computer in electronic notebook format.
Complete literature searches and prepare manuscript drafts.
Disseminate data from conducted studies
Co-author and/or present papers and posters at regional, national, and international scientific meetings.

Other Support
Work to achieve Sectional goals
Work with other members of the Section of Primate Behavior and Environmental Enrichment to improve the research, behavioral management, and animal healthcare programs.
Work with students/visitors/interns/post-doctoral residents
Assist with workshops and making hallway displays
Ensures adherence to all regulatory standards (IACUC/USDA/etc.) during the conduct of research for all ongoing projects.
Will ensure all supplies required to conduct research are purchased through appropriate vendors.

Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.
Preferred Education: Master's Level Degree.
Certification: None.
Preferred Certification: None.
Experience: One year experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience required with preferred degree.
Preferred Experience: Two years of experience conducting basic or applied research involving animal models. Experience with primate behavior and experience with study management. Excellent written and verbal skills and the ability to work independently as part of a multidisciplinary team. Knowledge of Microsoft Office, observational/statistical software, and programming in Python are highly desirable.
Onsite Presence: Is Required.
