The Beauty Industrial Complex is a feature-length documentary exploring how beauty standards function as systems of power and aspiration within capitalist culture. Combining expert interviews, visual storytelling, and experimental vignettes, the film examines why appearance has become both emotional and physical labor—and what it costs us to belong.
Role Overview
We are seeking a student or junior editor with strong storytelling instincts and technical skill to support the post-production process. This is an opportunity to collaborate on a socially engaged, artistically ambitious documentary while gaining hands-on experience in professional workflows and editorial structure. THIS POSITION IS HYBRID.
Responsibilities
Assist lead editor and director in assembling rough and fine cuts. Organize, log, and sync interview and b-roll footage. Implement feedback from director/producer and adapt cuts accordingly. Contribute creative input to narrative pacing, visual rhythm, and emotional flow. Maintain version control and organized project files in Adobe Premiere Pro (and/or DaVinci Resolve). Support research-driven visual storytelling (archival materials, text-on-screen, graphics).

WORK MODE
Hybrid – Employees hired for this position primarily work remotely with the occasional on-campus presence required with advanced notice. Employees in this role will also be expected to use their best judgment to be on campus when necessary in order to best fulfill the responsibilities of their job descriptions.
Hourly Rate: $31.37/hour
Minimum Qualifications: Qualifications
Current student (undergraduate or graduate) in film, media, or a related program. Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro (DaVinci Resolve experience a plus). Strong narrative and visual storytelling sensibility. Detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable managing large amounts of footage. Interest in documentary, cultural criticism, feminist studies, or social justice themes strongly preferred.
