Research Assistant Professor
The Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Virginia seeks a Laboratory Manager and scientist at the Research Assistant Professor level to help lead a translational blood cancer research program under the direction of Owen A. O’Connor, M.D., Ph.D. The candidate will join a highly collaborative research group to hasten the discovery and development of anti-cancer drugs, working closely with chemists, molecular biologists, immunologists and clinicians. The applicant should have long-standing experience in the field of drug discovery and development with some familiarity in translational cancer research. The applicant should be skilled in _in vitro_ techniques specifically 2D and 3D cell system, molecular biology, gene editing, microscopy, -omics, and animal studies. The candidate should also be fully trained in current cutting-edge technology including CRISPR/Cas9 mediated gene editing and should be able to apply these techniques to the field of drug development, or at the least help guide laboratory development of methodologies in these areas. Ideally, the candidate should also have experience in the development of nanotechnologies applied to cancer research, and in the methodologies deployed to study these drug candidates in various _in vivo_ models. We anticipate that research with this group of investigators will require a candidate able to merge all these different aspects of cancer research and new drug development. Appropriate candidates will contribute to developing research grant proposals and may pursue independent research funding that complements ongoing lab research. Successful candidates must have effective oral and written communication skills as evidenced by a solid track record of scientific manuscripts and presentations. The appropriate Candidate must have a PhD or MD/PhD or equivalent degree, with preference given to applicants with at least 4 years of post-doctoral research experience.
