**Overview** Under supervision of the Principal Investigator, the **Research Assistant** will carry out project to uncover mechanisms of cellular and physiological responses to metabolic stress. This position will afford the opportunity to learn a broad array of techniques and gain first-hand experience in design, execution, and interpretation of experiments. Beth Israel Lahey Health requires that all staff be vaccinated against influenza (flu) and COVID-19 as a condition of employment._ **Responsibilities** + Carries out molecular cell biology projects to understand how nutrient excess impacts cell function and metabolic regulation + Plans and conducts experiments using cells. Extend findings to mouse models. + Maintains appropriate records of study design and results. + Evaluates research results, discussing project outcomes with laboratory personnel. + Works collaboratively with post-doctoral fellows and other research assistants. + Assists with general laboratory supply, equipment maintenance, lab organization, and preparation of reagents. Genotyping and record keeping for mouse colony and interfaces with veterinary tech staff who perform animal husbandry. + Other duties as assigned. **Qualifications** + Bachelor’s degree + Longitudinal project-based experience working in a basic science research lab + Familiarity with basic laboratory instruments and equipment. + Ability to follow experimental protocols and trouble-shoot experiments.Well-developed attention to detail and critical thinking skills. + Strong organizational skills (ability to prioritize and multitask) and communication skills (communicate clearly and effectively via verbal and written instruction). + Interest in science, highly motivated, ability to take initiative. + Ability to work independently and with others in the lab in team efforts. + Competencies with mammalian cell culture, immunoblotting, PCR, and mouse husbandry are desirable but not required.
