Job Description
We are seeking a talented Research Associate or Senior Research Associate to join our growing material development team. This role will assist in the development of novel adsorbents by improving protein immobilization strategies. This will involve performing materials chemistry, handling and immobilizing proteins, and running chromatography experiments. The individual will join a group of collaborative scientists with diverse skill sets and should have strong communication skills, critical thinking skills, and a rigorous approach to lab work. Additionally, a track record of interdisciplinary experience is highly desirable as the candidate will interact with scientists spanning fields of chemistry, biology, and engineering.
ResponsibilitiesImmobilize proteins on chromatography media using established and novel bioconjugation strategies.Assess the success of conjugation reactions using standard biochemistry (e.g., protein gels, UV-Vis) and chemistry (e.g., FTIR, NMR) characterization techniques.Carry out standardized liquid chromatography workflows on instrumentation (FPLC and HPLC).Aid in the synthesis of linker molecules using standard organic synthesis techniques.Assist with basic wet-lab tasks such as preparing stock solutions, washing dishes, pipetting, autoclaving, etc.Maintain a well-organized digital lab notebook and present results to team members and supervisors.Essential SkillsB.S. in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or related fields.0-2 years industry experience in a lab environment (3-5 years for Senior).Knowledge about functionalizing and characterizing composite materials.Familiarity with analytical characterization techniques, such as UV-Vis, FTIR, etc.Experience performing liquid chromatography using FPLC or HPLC instruments.Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work within and among different teams.Strong organizational and record-keeping ability.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience performing chemical synthesis.Experience using liquid handler devices.Experience characterizing aqueous solutions of dissolved metals (e.g., ICP-OES).Experience in bioinorganic chemistry.Experience translating chemical syntheses/bioconjugation from the benchtop to large scale.Technical and theoretical experience related to bioconjugation.Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.44 - $43.27/hr.
