Description of Job: Valent BioSciences is seeking a Research Associate to execute and analyze fermentation experiments at our Biorational Research Center in Libertyville, IL. The Research Associate will conduct studies to support our R&D pipeline of new metabolite- and microorganism-based sustainable product solutions for the fields of crop enhancement, crop protection, rhizosphere, biostimulants, public health and forest health. Additionally, the role will contribute to the success of the Fermentation Group by providing support through the maintenance of equipment and inventories. Principal Responsibilities: + Execute and document lab and pilot scale experiments to develop robust microbial fermentation processes intended for scale up to commercial production. + Execute and document experiments to define robust fermentation conditions. + Perform statistical analyses on experimental data and present key findings. + Author work instructions and contribute to standard operating procedures + Complete lab support functions and train junior team members. + Define workflows and identify opportunities for efficiency improvement. + Conduct all work in strict compliance with applicable safety and regulatory requirements, standard operating practices, and/or guidelines. Knowledge Skills, and Abilities: + Experience in culturing microorganisms, including filamentous fungi, using aseptic techniques. + Understanding of fermentation control methodology and terminology. + Hands-on experience sampling and operating fermentation vessels. + Proficiency in Microsoft suite. + Understanding of statistical design/results analysis, preferably using JMP (or similar statistical software). + Excellent communication, documentation, and organization skills. Programming skills a plus. + Capability to identify and define workflows without explicit assignment. + Desire to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment and work within a team. + Willingness to foster a culture of diversity and inclusion. + Ability to lift 25 lbs. and stand for 5+ hours of workday. Education: + B.S. in Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology or related discipline with 0-2 years of experience Travel: 5% What We Offer We recognize that compensation and benefits play a crucial role in your career decisions. Individual pay is based upon location, skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
