The department of Medicine has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Research Associate to work on the UHealth campus. The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.Participates in the publication of significant results.Participates in the presentation of significant results at the National and International Conferences and Forums.Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.Department Specific Functions
Appointee will perform bench and animal work, contribute to basic research activities, participate in the publication of significant results, and advance expertise through education, training and/or research experience.Conduct molecular biology experiments, including PCR, Western blotting, ELISA, and immunohistochemistry.Perform cell culture, including primary renal cells and immortalized cell lines, under sterile conditions.Assist in designing and conducting in vivo studies using animal models of kidney disease.Assist with compliance with lab safety and IACUC protocols.Carry out genetic manipulation techniques in vitro and in vivo.Assist in the care, treatment (drug administration), and handling (breeding; body fluids and material for genotyping collection) of animal models, including maintaining accurate animal records.Record, analyze, and interpret experimental results using statistical tools and graphing software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, ImageJ, Photoshop, Illustrator etc.).Familiarity with bioinformatics tools (BLAST, FASTA, GSEA etc.) and knowledge of databases.Understanding of NGS techniques and data processing pipelines.Familiarity with network-based approaches and systems biology for mapping molecular interactions, pathways, and regulatory networks.Maintain laboratory equipment, reagents, and inventory to ensure smooth operation of the lab.Adhere to safety protocols, including handling of hazardous materials, and ensure compliance with institutional biosafety guidelines.Assist in maintaining and updating laboratory records, including research protocols, experimental procedures, and data sheets.Provide guidance on troubleshooting experiments and help with the standardization of protocols.Assist in the preparation of research findings for grant submission and publication in scientific journals.Collaborate with senior researchers, postdocs, and other lab members to ensure successful completion of research projects.Stay current with literature in nephrology and molecular biology to contribute to ongoing research discussions.Assist in the training of new lab members, including students and technicians, in specific experimental techniques and protocols.This list of duties and responsibilities is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties or responsibilities as necessary.
CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field (biology, chemistry) requiredAt least one year of lab experience preferred. Experience in the Bioinformatics field is a plus.Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
