The Department of Ophthalmology is currently seeking a full time Research Associate 3 to work at the McKnight Vision Research Center. The Research Associate 3 supports research activities under the direction of a principle investigator, program director or designee of the principle investigator or program director. Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data, maintaining databases. Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures. Participates in the publication of significant results. Advances expertise through continued education, training and/or research. Maintains an overview of relevant research findings. Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice and guidance.
Department Specific Functions
Maintains daily operations and performs experimental procedures related to new and ongoing glaucoma research projects, including imaging analysis, AI model development, and clinical data interpretation.
Assists with the acquisition, curation, and maintenance of large datasets (e.g., fundus photographs, OCT images, visual field data) for AI-driven research studies.
Supports the development and execution of institutional biosafety, patient data confidentiality protocols, and laboratory safety procedures.
Conducts advanced statistical analyses, applies machine learning models, and assists with the integration of multimodal data for glaucoma progression studies.
Develops, adapts, and optimizes laboratory procedures for image labeling, AI training pipelines, and algorithm validation.
Assists in patient recruitment and clinical testing for prospective studies, ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.
Facilitates data collection, organization, and storage for ongoing research studies, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for analysis.
Records, organizes, and compiles experimental results for publication in peer-reviewed journals, abstracts, and scientific presentations.
Keeps current with advances in the fields of AI, glaucoma diagnostics, and imaging technologies by reviewing the latest literature and incorporating best practices.
Assists in the preparation of research grant proposals and progress reports for funding agencies.
Provides mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff, students, and collaborators in laboratory and data-driven techniques.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies, ensures compliance with ethical standards for human research, and safeguards University resources and assets.
