The UHealth system at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a full time Research Associate 3 position in the Public Health Sciences Department.  This position is located in the UM Medical Campus, Health District.

SUMMARY

The Research Associate 3 supports research activities under the direction of a principle investigator, program director or designee of the principle investigator or program director.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                            

                                                                   

Maintains daily operations and performs procedures related to new and on-going research projects. 

Assists with ordering, purchasing, and maintenance of all required reagents and supplies for laboratory activities, and monitors and maintains inventory of supplies and stocks.

Assists with the maintenance of institutional biosafety and animal care protocols, laboratory safety records, and standard operating procedures.

Performs and assists other research staff with standard laboratory techniques.

Develops, adapts, and implements new laboratory procedures.

Records, organizes, and writes up experimental results for submission of manuscripts and for scientific presentations.

Keeps abreast of latest literature in the field and searches for references to technical problems.

Maintains current knowledge of the methods and techniques related to the specific field of research.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field

Experience: 

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

Department Specific Functions

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and evaluate health education programs and materials specifically tailored to firefighters.

Collaborate with research teams to integrate health education strategies into ongoing studies and interventions.

Design and conduct workshops, seminars, and training sessions on cancer prevention and health promotion for firefighters.

Establish and maintain relationships with firefighter departments, unions, and community organizations.

Conduct needs assessments to identify the health education needs of the firefighter community.

Develop and disseminate educational materials such as brochures, posters, and digital content to promote cancer prevention and healthy behaviors.

Collect and analyze data to assess the effectiveness of health education programs.

Prepare reports and presentations on program outcomes and recommendations for improvement.

Assist in the development of research protocols and the submission of IRB applications.

Advocate for policies and practices that promote health and safety among firefighters.

Stay informed about current research and best practices in cancer prevention and health education.

Participate in local and national health education and public health networks.

Work closely with the FCI team, including researchers, public health professionals, and community stakeholders.

Provide health education expertise and support to the initiative's various projects and activities.

Contribute to grant writing and fundraising efforts to support the initiative's programs.

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Knowledge of web-based data collection and management systems such as RedCap, Qualtrics, and Survey Monkey.

Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Education Requirements (Essential Requirements):

Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Public Health, or a related field (Master’s preferred).

Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) certification required.

Work Experience Requirements (Essential Requirements):

Minimum two years’ relevant work experience.

Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience and/or certifications may be considered.
