Prepare proposals for funding agencies, operation of research equipment, supervision of graduate students and other lab/field personnel in research. General responsibilities: -Assists with the design, planning, and coordination of experiments in support of various research projects involving wet laboratory, greenhouse, and field studies. -Manages and coordinates various research projects as needed. -Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research and maintains detailed records of data. -Uses field, lab, or technical equipment to collect data, organize data sets, and prepare reports. -Evaluates and summarizes results. -Assists in maintaining financial accounts and other clerical tasks related to research projects. -Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research with various day to day activities. -Installs, operates, maintains, and/or repairs research equipment. -Assists with reports, invoices, and cataloging records. -Assists in ordering supplies for office and research use. -Maintains and updates inventories. -Performs other related duties as assigned. Specific responsibilities: - Assist with the design and execution of various plant science/agricultural experiments. Research will involve wet laboratory, greenhouse and field experiments related to the area of weed science. More specifically, wet lab activities such as DNA extraction, electrophoresis, and sterile techniques; plant culturing and experimentation under growth chamber and greenhouse settings; conducting experiments under strenuous field conditions; data collection, data organization, and analysis in Microsoft Excel and other platforms, and report preparation. - Must multi-task and oversee several research projects and associated activities. Will interact and collaborate with other Texas A&M system scientists. -Co-ordinate and manage various research projects and personnel in the weed science program. Assist the program with communications, accounting, and other administrative duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science degree in an agriculture related major or other relevant field. -Two years of related professional experience. Preferred Education: -A MS in weed science, agronomy or relevant field Preferred Licenses/Certifications: -A pesticide applicator license. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: -Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position. -Ability to have a strong work ethic -Ability to work as part of a multi-cultural team -Strong communication skills. -Ability to multi- task and work cooperatively with others. -Ability to travel to research stations including some occasional overnight stays. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: -Knowledge of wet lab skills, sterile techniques, and plant culture in growth chamber and greenhouse settings. -Knowledge of crop production techniques and field operations. -Knowledge of greenhouse, laboratory and field research involving weed management and agronomy.
