Position Summary/Description:
The primary purpose of the research associate position is to work with leadership and affiliated faculty of the Sonja Haynes Stone Center to identify grant opportunities; to write, draft, and develop grant applications; and to revise existing grant proposals for resubmission for extra-mural funding especially in the humanities and social sciences. The research associate will also explore and identify funding needs to support Stone Center programs, work with center-appointed development officers to help ensure the Stone Center reaches its annual funding goals, and perform related tasks for grant submission and administration.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
Education and Experience:
-At least three years’ experience in competitive grant proposal development and writing.
-Existing relationships with public and private granting foundations.
-Experience working with diverse student and faculty communities within higher education.
Essential Skills:
-Knowledge of public and private granting foundations.
-Excellent writing and organizational skills.
-Knowledge of research and funding opportunities pertaining to studies of African Americans and the African diaspora.
-Flexible, collaborative, yet able to work effectively with a high degree of independence.
-Ability to prioritize work amidst multiple demands and meet deadlines.
-Ability to initiate and build relationships for the purpose of funding solicitation.
-Demonstrated knowledge of software programs including Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, and Outlook.
