Research Associate will be responsible determining the food quality and safety of alternative protein foods and collaborating with industry partners in the development of innovative products from alternative protein sources (ie.,insects, vegetables, etc The candidate has the responsibility of assisting with providing and maintaining quality laboratory facilities and learning experiences for the CEPHT’s students. The Research Associate must conduct research expected at the doctoral level, assist with preparing grants/contracts for extramural funding, meet project deadlines, and publish research findings in reputable scientific journals.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institution and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade. The North Carolina Research Campus in Kannapolis is a 350-acre research center located just north of Charlotte, NC. Corporations, universities and healthcare organizations have forged a public-private partnership that is transforming science at the intersection of human health, nutrition and agriculture by advancing the boundaries of research and development. Research and product development are collaborative and multi-disciplinary. Focus areas are as varied as phytochemicals in fruits, vegetables, grains and herbs; exercise physiology; post-harvest physiology; population-based, genetic studies; and personalized nutrition. Research is supported by the UNC Charlotte Bioinformatics Services Division and the David H. Murdock Research Institute ( DHMRI ), which houses one of the most advanced collections of scientific instrumentation in genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, microscopy and NMR .
Requirements:
PhD in Food Science, Nutrition Science or closely related field, postdoctoral research experience, a strong publicationrecord, and demonstrated potential to obtain external research funding. Minimum of two years of postdoctoralresearch experience. Demonstrated ability to prepare and secure extramurally funded grants. Demonstrated ability toconduct basic and translational research related to food safety and microbiology of value-added products. Ability to plan, conduct and publish innovative high-quality research that can attract significant extramural funding.
Preferred:

This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
