Job Title Research Associate Agency Texas A&M Agrilife Research Department Institute Of Renewable Natural Resources Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location College Station, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description The Research Associate, under general supervision will assist with collecting biological data on a variety of plants and animals in Texas and other states. Responsibilities: - Work with clients and staff on all levels, including contractors, research faculty, and TAMU-NRI partners. - Plan, schedule, and execute work through military installation and Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute (https://nri.tamu.edu/). - Collect data about natural resources, listed species, invasive species, conditions, trends, and status to guide management activities. - Survey and manage wildlife populations and species of concern. - Support outdoor recreation program; invasive species management; habitat restoration; collecting, analyzing, and managing GIS data and creating maps and summary and compliance reports; inventorying and maintaining equipment; and assisting with education and outreach programs. - Conduct surveys to locate and map target species hibernacula, foraging areas, and habitat utilization data. - Prepare, develop, and coordinate DoD environmental and budget documentation, schedule design reviews and assist with plans and reporting. -Other duties as assigned. Required Education and Experience:-Bachelor’s degree in relevant field -Two years of related professional experience. Preferred Education and Experience: -Undergraduate or graduate degree in wildlife management, rangeland ecology, hydrology, or relevant field -Previous experience with environmental monitoring/ecological sampling. -Previous experience with federal land management and integration of natural resource plans. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, - Ability to complete projects accurately, on time, and in a professional manner. - Strong networking skills and communication skills. - Good computer skills. - Good technical writing skills. - Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Proficiency in use of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PhotoShop, ESRI/ArcGIS, and other appropriate software. - Knowledge of research directing eligibility listing, Sikes Act and Clean Water Act. - Knowledge and skills in environmental monitoring to include wildlife and plant identification, wildlife monitoring methods, ATV operating certification, GPS, and GIS system use.
