The Research Associate performs independent or supervisory roles in research activities requiring an advanced level of knowledge in a field of science or learning, are predominantly intellectual and varied in character, and require consistent use of discretion and judgment; prepares proposals for funding agencies, operates research equipment, supervises/trains graduate students and other lab/field personnel in research.

Required Education and Experience
+ Bachelor’s degree in biology or relevant field
+ Two years of related experience in specialized and relevant fields of research
Preferred Qualifications
+ Master’s Degree
+ Familiar with rodent genetic and disease animal models, primary cell isolation and culture, histology, and immunohistochemistry
+ Familiar with mammalian cell culture, molecular cloning, and molecular biology techniques, including Western Blot, PCR, qPCR, and ELISA
+ Research experience in cardiovascular diseases and/or cardiac physiology
+ Has peer-reviewed publication(s)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position
+ Knowledge of appropriate laboratory and/or technical equipment
+ Attention to detail
Responsibilities
+ Research: Design, plan, conduct, and coordinate experiments in support of various research projects
+ Evaluate, select, and apply standard techniques of routine research, keeping detailed records of data. Installs, operates, and/or repairs research equipment. Assists in planning and coordinating research projects. Uses computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results. Evaluate and summarize experiment results.
+ Research Publications: Utilizes summarized results in scientific and/or clientele-oriented publications. Prepares and writes proposals to funding agencies and maintains financial accounts related to research projects.
+ Lab Meetings/Projects: Participate in lab meetings within the center and other departments. Participate in joint projects involving the laboratory team. Assist with undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical, or field staff involved in research.
+ Training: Trains undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical, or field staff involved in research.
