Research Associate II - Transgenic Mouse Core

A Research Associate II position is available within the Transgenic Mouse Core where you will perform specialized laboratory procedures to create genetically-modified animal models.  This career track position will require a motivated and dedicated individual excited by the prospect of exploring and implementing cutting edge methods and technologies that will advance basic and translational research.  This position may start as a Research Associate I dependent upon skills and experience.

 

The Transgenic/Knockout Program [TKP] produces genetically modified mice as a service to researchers at the City of Hope, and, as such, you must possess a high level of dedication and professionalism.

 

Ability to perform light work on weekends to set up experiments as required.

 

As a successful candidate, your will:

·         Conduct euthanasia procedures in compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.

·         Prepare specialized types of media for cell culture, in vitro embryo culture/manipulation, and cryopreservation of mouse gametes and embryos.

·         In vitro Culture of Mouse Embryos.

·         Develop proficiency in micro-manipulation techniques and electroporation procedures used to genetically modify mouse embryos.

·         Perform both surgical and non-surgical embryo transfer of embryos into mice.

·         Manage and maintain in vitro cultures of mouse embryonic stem cells.

·         Perform cryopreservation of mouse gametes and embryos.

·         Rederivation of mouse strains using in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer.

·         Actively manage mouse breeding colonies to ensure their well-being and genetic integrity.

·         Molecular Biology such as; PCR, in vitro transcription, gel electrophoresis, and plasmid construction/preparation.

·         Conduct microscopy procedures required to generate and genotype genetically-modified mice.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s degree.  Masters degree preferred

·         2+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 1+ year related experience with a Master’s degree.

·         Experience with laboratory mice.  Previous experience with specific methods is not required, so you must demonstrate both the enthusiasm and dedication required to master a variety of tasks.
