Job Overview

The University of Cincinnati’s College of Engineering and Applied Science seeks a full-time Research Associate for the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. The role involves managing research projects and contributing to studies in Explainable AI and Optimal Control.

Essential Functions Coordinate laboratory projects and research studies in Explainable AI and Optimal Control. Manage the full project lifecycle of grant-funded research, ensuring milestones and deliverables are met. Mentor and manage graduate research students. Oversee laboratory operations and research equipment. Lead and support grant proposal writing and submission. Contribute independently to projects based on expertise and experience. Utilize research knowledge to solve complex problems and independently manage full project cycles. Collaborate effectively as part of a research team. Analyze research data, design data search procedures, and establish research standards and controls. Deliver significant outcomes for assigned projects and studies as a seasoned researcher. Required Education

 Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field.

Required Experience In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline. May require experience with specialized software programs.  Additional Qualifications Considered At least two years of experience in academic and experimental research. Minimum of two years in leadership and management roles. Strong knowledge of Fuzzy Logic, Explainable AI principles, Machine Learning, Reinforcement Learning, and Optimal Control. Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, and Isaac Sim. Physical Requirements/Work Environment Sitting - Continuously Repetitive hand motion (such as typing) - Often Hearing, listening - Often Talking - Often Standing - Often Walking - Often Bending - Often Stooping - Often Kneeling, squatting - Seldom Lifting - up to 20 pounds - Often Noise: There is sufficient noise to cause you to shout in order to be heard above the noise level. Hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts of machinery or tools used to perform work, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals. Atmospheric Conditions: Conditions that affect the respiratory system, such as fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
