Research Associate Position - Beers Laboratory

The Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care in the Department of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Research Associate positions in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Applicants must have an M.D. or Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree.
Responsibilities may include scientific research in the field of pulmonary medicine with a focus on experimental design and implementation and preparation of scientific papers, grants writing and grants proposals.
The successful applicant will have an opportunity to characterize alveolar type II biology and dysfunction in model of pulmonary fibrosis.
Candidates will have demonstrated excellent qualifications in research. This position requires expertise in murine modeling of pulmonary fibrosis, as demonstrated by publication record. The candidate must have previous experience with bioinformatics, from the generation of samples, processing of raw data, and the production of publication quality visual representations. A significant goal of this position is the translation of novel epithelial and mesenchymal populations in mice to the relevant equivalent in human models. To accomplish this the candidate must also have previous experience with flow cytometry and primary cell isolation from human lungs. This is a mentored position in the lab space of a senior member of the division. Preferred candidates will have opportunities to prepare manuscripts, mentor students, and write grants.
