**Position Description:**
Performs specialized work in the planning, conducting and/or supervising of original research. Responsible for participating in, planning, scheduling and/or supervising research projects and the interpretation of the results for publication. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness of project. May supervise research and student assistants. Adherence to robust safety practices and compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations are responsibilities of all employees.

**Major/Essential Functions:**
Supports SVM-wide histology-related activities and reports to the Associate Dean for Research. Performs specialized work in the planning, coordinating, conducting, and providing services relating to histology laboratory. Provides oversight, coordination, and invoicing of histology-related services and the use thereof. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on accomplishment of assigned objectives and overall effectiveness in supporting the research and teaching portfolio of SVM. Other essential job functions listed below:
+ Develop standard of operating procedures (SOP) for the laboratory
+ Process specimens from fixation to cut and subsequently perform staining assays
+ Oversee all histology laboratory materials, compile and maintain laboratory’s databases and inventories, manage the procurement of supplies, and vendor relationships
+ Provide histological support to faculty, staff, and veterinary and graduate students
+ Maintain laboratory equipment and its usage

**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Knowledge of histology laboratory practices, the methods, resources, and standards
+ Computer software knowledge (Excel, Word, etc).
+ Ability to work in an environment handling biological samples
+ Competence in navigating around molecular laboratories

**Required Qualifications:**
Master's degree or specialized academic training beyond the Bachelor's level in a particular field of science or engineering equivalent to a Master's degree. One year research experience. Knowledge of modern research practices, the methods, resources, and standards thereof.
