Research Chemist I - Siding Products
CertainTeed Sidings Product Group is currently seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented Research Chemist I to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a strong fundamental understanding of chemistry and engineering principles, a strong work ethic, and excellent communication skills, capable of collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical cross-functional teams. **RESPONSIBILITIES:** + Conduct R&D laboratory work to test and analyze raw materials, particularly color concentrate formulations and polymeric compounds, and summarize findings in the form of technical reports and presentations to a wider audience. + Conduct product performance and weathering testing with new color formulations, alternative raw materials, and formulations. + Assist plant operations team to evaluate and resolve color-related manufacturing issues in a timely manner. Occasional travel may be required to manufacturing sites for conducting trials and resolving manufacturing issues. + Work with raw material suppliers and the central purchasing team to optimize color concentrate formulations, create and maintain specifications, and resolve technical issues related to them. + Collaborate with the warranty and quality teams to resolve siding color and fade-related field issues. + Devise and validate new test methods/capabilities for color formulations, other raw materials, and product performance evaluation. + Maintain a safe environment in the laboratory workplace, ensure laboratory equipment calibrations and maintenance are up to date. **REQUIREMENTS:** + Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical or Materials Engineering, or a related field. An advanced degree is a plus. + Ability to work independently and take initiative, with the ability to evaluate new, unconventional ideas and apply them for improvement of the product performance. + Exceptional attention to detail in all aspects of work. + Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to diverse audiences. + Strong work ethic and commitment to achieving project goals. + Experience working in laboratory research and development, preferably in a related field. University level laboratory research experience will be considered. + Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. + Proficiency in relevant computer software and laboratory tools. **Preferred Qualifications:** + Previous experience in a research-focused role in industry.
