Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit The Office of Research Compliance & Integrity (ORCI) is responsible for the oversight of research integrity and compliance matters in the areas of:

Ethical conduct of human and animal research Responsible conduct of research Biosafety Federal and state regulations Export control International travel or collaboration policies External professional activities Conflicts of interest and commitment Security Position Summary This position serves as the Conflict of Interest (COI) Officer and provides support in the human subject’s institutional review board (IRB) as an analyst. The COI Officer, ensures procedures adhere to regulatory requirements while also designing processes to assist faculty and staff with the completion of conflict of interest and notice of intent disclosures. The COI Officer also implements procedures that support a culture of research compliance and ethics while continuing to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local regulations and policy.

Duties related to IRB analyst are the management of IRB submissions and analysis IRB protocols to ensure accuracy, ethical congruity, compliance with federal, state and institutional regulations and procedures. Minimum Qualifications This position requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience working with federal regulations and compliance or equivalent education and experience. Percentage Of Time 45% Key Responsibility Conflict of Interest (COI) and Conflict of Commitment (COC) Essential Tasks Prepares and manages the annual COI process and provides daily oversight. Advise and assist faculty, staff, and students in completing COI, Research Based Disclosures, and Notice of Intent (NOI) submissions and provide regulatory interpretation of local and federal policies that pertain to them. Manage the storage of all relevant COI and COC documentation according to UNCG policy and federal guidelines and finalizes submission approvals through Cayuse. Serve as a first reviewer of submissions and management plans and make a determination or refer to committee as needed. Manage all aspects of the COI committee, including preparation and distribution of agendas, minutes, and decisions. Provide training for COI committee members. Act as a resource and regulatory expert for COI committee members. Maintain the COI module in the Cayuse system. Consistently demonstrate a customer service focus, providing high-quality and timely answers to inquiries. Maintain a record keeping system to confirm that COI requirements are being met per federal regulations. In coordination with the associate director, create and review content for the UNCG Scholar COI webpage. Regularly review and assess COI policies and procedures to ensure processes are meeting the needs of the university community. Assists the ORI associate director in revising and updating institutional and office policies and procedures. Facilitate and manage the post-approval monitoring process to ensure university compliance. Percentage Of Time 35% Key Responsibility Institutional Review Board (IRB) Essential Tasks Advise and assist faculty, staff, and students in the completion of IRB submissions and provide regulatory interpretation of local and federal policies that pertain to IRB submissions. Manage IRB submissions and serve as an analyst for IRB protocols to ensure accuracy, ethical congruity, compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations and procedures. Manage the review of exempt, expedited and full board IRB protocols, renewals and modifications and distribution of approval letters and approved documents. Percentage Of Time 15% Key Responsibility Training and Education Essential Tasks Conduct COI/COC and NOI training sessions for faculty, staff, and students. Conduct training sessions for committee members to keep them abreast of current and new regulations and policies. Meet individually with faculty, staff, and researchers to discuss their questions. Percentage Of Time 5% Key Responsibility Other duties Essential Tasks Attends regional and national meetings/conferences to bring information to ORI stakeholders.
