The Swisher Lab has an amazing opportunity for **Research Consultant** to develop and maintain configurable and modular pipelines that enable the lab to identify novel mutations in ovarian cancer and suitability of treatments for different subsets of ovarian cancer patients. The Research Consultant focuses on genetics research with a focus on ovarian cancer, specifically on generating and running bioinformatics pipelines for analysis of next generation sequencing data from blood and tumor tissue, including targeted sequencing and whole genome sequencing. In addition, this individual will serve as an important member of the lab by helping to develop analysis methods for high throughput molecular assays including methylation mapping and RNAseq data. This position fills an important gap in our lab where very few staff have the knowledge or training on this type of work. This position allows our lab to produce more rigorous and high-quality research and to submit grants that have high quality analytic plans in place and staff able to perform to the work when funded. This position will be working with laboratory members who are located in labs throughout the Seattle campus as well as collaborators who are located throughout the country. This position would be responsible for developing and maintaining pipelines in support of ovarian cancer research. **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** 70% + Provide computational biology support for a cancer genomics laboratory. + Develop, maintain, and verify bioinformatic pipelines that utilize cutting edge computational tools for analysis of Next Generation Sequencing data. + The pipelines will be used to understanding novel mutations that are involved in ovarian cancer. + Generate analyses that help with derivation of data-driven hypothesis regarding the biology of ovarian cancer development. + The ETL (extract, transform, load) data pipelines operate on bash, Python and R scripts in a Unix environment. + Take ownership of the pipelines and contribute new features as needed.30% + Collaborate with Dr. Swisher to explore best suited bioinformatic solutions to address existing clinical challenges which could include literature review. + Author comprehensive reports describing analysis and interpretation of data and present findings in a group setting. + Prepare and present written and oral reports of experimental results. + May train and direct the work of junior Research Scientists and other laboratory personnel. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS** + Bachelors Degree in Biotechnology or related field. + Two years in Laboratory experience. **Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.** **Application Process:** The application process may include completion of a variety of online assessments to obtain additional information that will be used in the evaluation process.
