Job Description Summary About URI:

The University of Rhode Island enrolls approximately 17,000 students across its graduate and undergraduate programs and is the State’s flagship public research university, as well as the land grant and sea grant university, for the state of Rhode Island. The main campus is located in the historic village of Kingston, and the Bay Campus is located in Narragansett. Both campuses are near major beaches in a beautiful coastal community. URI is just 30 minutes from Providence, RI and within easy reach of Newport, Boston, and New York City.

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the URI Director of the Navy STEM program, play a critical role in developing and maintaining Undergraduate Navy STEM outreach efforts and workforce development. Focus on undergraduate (12 – 16) and K-12 support. Coordinate the ANCHOR Summer Research Fellows program. Assist with Summer Camps, Summer programs, and year-round events. Ensure project participants understand and implement programs that are consistent. Utilize experience and direct development of tools and practices to facilitate collaboration between academic, industry, school district, and government partners.

Duties and Responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Recruit students and faculty mentors for undergraduate research opportunities during the academic year, and for the ANCHOR Summer Research Fellows program.

Coordinate logistics for summer programs, with a focus on the ANCHOR Summer Research Fellows program.

Attend regular meetings and facilitate collaboration between academic, industry, school district, and government partners involved with Navy STEM research and outreach programs.

Under the guidance of the Navy STEM Director and in coordination with the Navy STEM Team, participate in outreach with K-12 students and teachers.

Represent the Navy STEM coalition at career fairs and public outreach events.

Communicate with students, faculty and stakeholders.

Maintain records and prepare reports for both internal and external stakeholders.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform other duties as required.

LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:

Personal computers, printers, word processing and spreadsheet software. U.S. Citizenship. Microsoft Office. Google apps.

Required Qualifications REQUIRED:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science Education, or related field.

2. Minimum of two years of successful hands-on STEM outreach experience working with K-12 and undergraduate students.

3. Demonstrated experience with university operations and university-based outreach and research.

4. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office and Google apps (Sheets, Doc, Forms, etc.).

5. Demonstrated organizational skills.

6. Demonstrated attention to detail.

7. Demonstrated strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.

8. Demonstrated proficiency in written communication skills.

9. Willingness to travel in Rhode Island and Connecticut.

10. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.

Preferred Qualifications PREFERRED:

1. Master’s degree in Engineering.

2. Demonstrated experience with grant writing and reporting (including a focus on tracking key performance targets and metrics).

3. Demonstrated experience working with STEM faculty and educators.
