The University of Washington Department of Emergency Medicine established the Section of Population Health in 2018. Population health is broadly defined as both the elimination of diseases and injuries, as well as the intersecting and overlapping factors that influence health. Our Section consists of more than ten faculty, many with extramural research funding, and a robust educational program. Although individual faculty interests vary, we have largely concentrated our research, education, advocacy and service activities on developing and evaluating systems of care serving communities local and globally, often focusing on underserved and vulnerable populations and the associated social, economic and environmental determinants of health. Current and past funding includes the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institute on Mental Health (NIMH), National Institute on Aging (NIA), NASA, and University of Washington internal grants through the Population Health Pilot Grant, Institute of Translational Health Sciences (ITHS) and Global Innovation Fund. Similarly, broad, our research portfolio includes a blend of domestic and international health services, impact evaluations, informatics and clinical trials. Examples of current research include improving care of patients with opioid use disorder, increasing linkage to care for refugees with HIV in Uganda, examining ED-based screening for social determinants of health, and evaluating the impact of the Medicaid Transformation Project on ED utilization in King County. We have an outstanding opportunity for a **full-time Research Coordinator** . The Research Coordinator will work under the supervision of Principal Investigators in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Section of Population Health to coordinate activities for a variety of health services and policy-focused research projects. Initially, the candidate’s primary responsibility will be to support a 5-year, multi-faceted NIMH-funded R01 studying behavioral health delivery in community health centers and its implications for access to care for Medicaid beneficiaries (PI: Dr Amber Sabbatini). We anticipate the candidate will support other projects related to emergency and hospital care delivery and patient outcomes within the Section of Population Health after year 1. The person in this position will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day research activities for the development, implementation, and coordination of the research program in collaboration with principal investigators in the section. Activities may include: securing human subject approvals, developing data collection instruments, collecting and managing datasets, non-complex data analyses and visualizations, literature and policy reviews, stakeholder engagement, writing and disseminating results. The specific activities of this position will evolve over time as projects ramp down and new projects are initiated. The position requires a high level of organization, attention to detail, and confidence in communicating with health care leaders and policymakers, patient advocacy organizations and senior researchers. The candidate who fills this position will work closely with several research team members and stakeholders to coordinate and facilitate research projects, with multiple goals and support requirements. This position will require adaptability, flexibility, and a talent for multi-tasking and prioritizing, to support a diverse portfolio projects within the section. **RESPONSIBILITIES** Project Management (25%): • Contribute to research planning, preparation and overall monitoring of milestones. • Manage and coordinate research activities to ensure alignment with scope, timelines, and budget. • Collaborate with all key partners and research team members to maintain open, timely, and accurate communication with all internal and external stakeholders about developments, changes, and/or new directions and deliverables; communicate priorities, goals, and resources. • Assist with drafting and submission of progress reports to funders. • Assist with data acquisition and DUA applications. • Coordinate and participate in investigator, research team, and Advisory Board and other meetings: develop agendas, take meeting minutes, and track action items. Research Activities (50%): • Oversee recruitment, data collection, and management for a large national survey of Community Health Centers in conjunction with the UW Survey Research Division. This includes helping obtain contact information for clinic medical directors, mailing notifications about the survey and assisting with follow-up attempts, tracking overall survey response rates and progress toward milestones, interim descriptive analyses of respondent survey data, outreach to stakeholders and professional organizations to enhance survey response rates. • Conduct literature and policy reviews around state Medicaid policies related to behavioral health. Build and maintain a dataset of these policies from literature review or key informant interviews with state Medicaid officials. • Conduct simple quantitative (descriptive) using Stata, R, or other statistical software, with the support of section statisticians or research consultants as needed. • Assist in qualitative analyses with research team such as key informant interviews of state policy makers. • Working with public information specialist, generate project reports, infographics to effectively disseminate research findings. Design, test, and implement methods and formats for data reporting to stakeholders. • Oversee progress reports for funders. Data Management (25%): • Download and maintain several publicly available health services data sources and be familiar with the datasets. • Proactively manage databases and acquired data (e.g. survey data), ensure accuracy of data and participate in quality control activities. • Serve as a liaison between the project team and data vendor/sources to communicate data needs, submit DUA applications, and facilitate data delivery. • Complete and maintain appropriate regulatory approvals such as data use agreements, human subjects review, as necessary for the position. **Requirements include:** • Bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of experience to include public health research experience and involvement in large research projects. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. **Desired:** • Master’s degree in public health, health sciences, public policy or related fields • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) • Excellent organizational skills, including independently managing multiple tasks while ensuring attention to detail, accuracy, and quality results • Strong project and time management skills • Experience developing research materials • Ability to self-motivate and work independently as part of a team with limited supervision • Demonstrated writing and communication skills, particularly in the context of collaborating and coordinating with a variety of stakeholders and people from diverse backgrounds • Experience in qualitative and quantitative research and data collection • Experience developing and submitting Institutional Review Board (IRB) proposal and modification requests • Skills in REDCap or other software for data capture and organization • Skills in Tableau or other data visualization platforms.
