The University of Maryland College Park Department of Geographical Sciences is among the worlds leading academic units dedicated towards tackling societys most pressing concerns Our internationally renowned experts bring satellite data processing and geospatial technologies to the forefront of scientific discovery Through our research and teaching our faculty staff and students advance cutting edge solutions for climate change biodiversity wildfire food security global health sustainability and poverty We are searching for a financial research coordinator to help us manage the pre and post award financial analysisprojections for the research projects under their supervision Join our vibrant collaborative team This position is a 12 month full time status Our staff benefits include tuition remission for you and your family generous leave 3 personal 15 holiday 15 sick 22 earned vacation days each year comprehensive health coverage retirement subsidy ORP Pension System and many professional development opportunities This position is also telework eligible with flexible work hours Geographical Sciences promotes growth in individuals and a healthy work life balance within a collaborative culture and truly values and is always seeking ways to enhance work life balance The salary range or hiring range for this position has been established from high 70000s to high 90000s per year depending on qualifications The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors including but not limited to internal equity experience education specialty and training Financial Research Coordinator will have primary responsibility for the contract and grant administration both pre and post award for the projects under their supervision and serves the critical role of financial analyst for their assigned research portfolios Responsible for using financial forecasting tools to confirm that each Principal Investigator PI is solvent and can meet their financial obligations for the fiscal year In addition working with financial forecasting tools identify available budget surplus or budget deficits for each PI and help them plan accordingly Financial Research Coordinator will be expected to meet annually with Director of Administrative Services and Chair to confirm financial stability of their research portfolios for the upcoming fiscal year This position will be a member of a research administrative team in the Department of Geographical Sciences Coordinator will manage six to eight million dollars per year in grant funding representing approximately 30 40 separate grant accounts These projects will generate an equivalent number of proposals per year and support approximately 30 research staff This oversight consists of 1 extensive support to faculty and staff during all phases of proposal development including assisting in the development of budgets that conform to regulations 2 monitoring spending on awards against the proposed budgets reconciling the Departments records to the Universitys accounting system and providing financial forecasting for their assigned research portfolios 3 review and approval of all research related expenditures including payroll travel and equipment purchases to ensure they are appropriate and allocable 4 monitoring balances expiration dates and reporting requirements to ensure timely submission of reports and close out of the awards as required by the sponsor and 5 identify potential funding sources through collaborations with campus research and development offices
