Research Cordinator II
Classification Title: Research Coordinator II Job Description: Capacity Building and Strategic Support for Pacific Preparedness and Response Planning Work closely with jurisdiction emergency response coordinators, managers, and other stakeholders to understand current capacity for planning and response, the status of specific response plans, and jurisdiction-specific needs. Identify necessary technical expertise and partnerships to support updating and finalizing jurisdiction-specific response plans, including coral disease (primarily SCTLD), crown of thorns, coral bleaching, and other disturbances deemed a priority by the jurisdictions. Work with jurisdiction emergency response coordinators and other stakeholders to update, finalize, and maintain disturbance response plans. Host annual workshops with coordinators to support response planning and training needs. Collate existing materials and resources, including existing response plans, response plan templates, videos, technical training, and other resources that could be used to support preparedness and planning. Ensure jurisdiction emergency coordinators have access to these resources and apply them to response planning efforts. Where gaps/needs exist, coordinate with technical experts to offer workshops, learning exchanges, and training for Pacific managers, practitioners, and community stakeholders. Assist jurisdiction emergency response coordinators in identifying and securing supplies. Develop permitting guidelines for response activities. Identify capacity among jurisdiction emergency coordinators to continue regional and national collaboration. Help to address gaps in capacity and resources. Building Partnerships and Enhancing Regional Coordination Engage with NOAA’s Disaster Preparedness Program to provide technical expertise to support response planning efforts. Engage with the Aquatic Nuisance Species Task Force to leverage technical expertise and resources to support disturbance preparedness. Coordinate with the U.S. Coral Reef Task Force Coral Disease & Disturbance Working Group to support preparedness and planning efforts. Ensure broader regional and international coordination with other partners focused on disturbance planning, response approaches, and information-sharing. Attend jurisdictional working group meetings as appropriate. Develop and maintain relationships with relevant points of contact at federal agencies. Support for Communication, Awareness, and Community Engagement Work with jurisdictional partners to create and disseminate relevant outreach materials for stakeholder groups as appropriate. Facilitate the translation of materials as needed. Disseminate broadly via a variety of networks to ensure access among a broad group of stakeholders. Integrate relevant content and materials into existing citizen science and outreach and education programs, enabling coastal community members to play a role in protecting their reefs. Modify disturbance-focused content from other regions for use in the Pacific in collaboration with Pacific partners.   Other duties as assigned Expected Salary:

$50,000

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization; Knowledge of and direct experience with coral reef biology, ecology, and/or the conservation of Pacific coral reef ecosystems. Demonstrated ability to initiate and complete projects with minimal supervision. Ability to work effectively and communicate with diverse audiences, and interpret technical information and relate it in nontechnical language to local community concerns. High level of analytical, organizational and planning skills. Ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to interact objectively and effectively with diverse audiences;  Fluency in computer and communications technology. Demonstrated experience coordinating marine resource management. Experience in public outreach/extension is highly desirable. Willingness to travel, and work occasionally in evenings and weekends.

This position is fully remote; preferred locations include Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
