Mission/Purpose of role
The goal of the Radio Systems Researcher role is to develop novel, superior, disruptive technologies for wireless communication and sensing focusing on the physical layer, medium access layer, radio resource management and system design. The focus is on challenging industry problems that cannot be solved through technologies available today but requires fundamentally different solutions with potential to be realized in the longer term. The novel solutions are expected to result in generation of intellectual property and technology transfer to business groups and standards organizations. The scope covers radio systems innovations on a medium term for 6G Day 1, as well as long term, for the 6G era and beyond, with a special focus on application of AI to wireless systems.
Pure Research (PR) comprises fundamental systematic research of exploratory nature for the development of new products and services as well as disruptive technologies superseding conventional approaches. In contrast to applied R&D, PR covers the provision of a comprehensive understanding of scientific insights without directed application towards products, policies, or operational processes.
Research & Innovation (RIN) comprises the conduction of extensive fundamental scientific research on a particular field of expertise aiming at fuller, more complete knowledge and understanding of the fundamental aspects of a concept or a phenomenon. Covers encouragement of disruptive innovations and the provision of novel solutions while building up robust intellectual property for Nokia.
