Fujitsu Research of America (FRA) is inviting applications for a research engineer member position in AI Labs. The selected candidate will work from FRA’s Santa Clara office. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanic Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics with a focus on machine learning, human–computer interaction, or software engineering.
We are seeking a Research Engineer to support AI Agent research and development within Fujitsu's AI research team. This position will be responsible for implementing and developing cutting-edge AI technologies, systems development, and transforming research results into business value. The role will involve close collaboration with international research partners and team members, driving global AI research initiatives from our Silicon Valley office.
Key Responsibilities:
- AI Technology Research and Implementation
- Investigate the latest AI papers and research outcomes, implementing, evaluating, and optimizing these algorithms.
- Develop prototypes to commercialize research results in collaboration with internal teams and external research partners.
- AI System Design and Development
- Design and develop AI agent systems, providing technical support for commercialization efforts.
- Implement research results into systems, performing performance evaluations and scalability testing.
- Collaborate with data engineers, software engineers, and other technical teams to drive the development, deployment, and optimization of AI systems.
- Qualifications:
- Education: Ph.D. in Computer Science or a closely related field.
- Experience:
- Proven experience reading and implementing algorithms from cutting-edge AI research papers.
- Experience in developing and implementing AI-related systems (e.g., deep learning models, natural language processing, reinforcement learning).
- Knowledge in handling large-scale data processing, model optimization, and implementing AI algorithms in distributed systems.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in programming languages and libraries essential for AI development, such as Python, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in mathematical modeling and algorithm design.
- Excellent communication skills in English (proficiency in Japanese is a plus).

It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the circumstances of each situation. The pay range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to: specific skills, qualifications, experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. The pay range for this position is estimated at $122,774.40 to $175,392.00 USD. Additionally, this role may be eligible for a short-term incentive based on company results and individual performance.
