Research Engineer I

Support investigations associated with Abrasive R&D projects in areas of grinding and surface finishing through hands on testing and product performance characterization.  The Research Engineer I will work closely with senior team members, various worldwide R&D and business teams to conduct research in grinding technology and abrasive processing.

Responsibilities

Innovative Testing & Development:

Supporting ongoing new product development projects through design and execution of robust product testing.  This includes improving existing procedures (scoping and deploying equipment, tooling, fixtures, methodologies, SOPs, and data management).  These implementations will enhance our capability to quantitatively explain abrasive processes, design new abrasive products, and conceive new grinding applications.

Hands-On Expertise:

Developing hands on expertise in the measurement and analysis of grinding applications, including participating in projects to create and evaluate new process measurement systems and techniques that enhance our capability to quantitatively describe Abrasives processes.

Data Analysis & Interpretation

Analyzing experimental data and developing methods to enrich data interpretation and synthesis in areas related to grinding and surface characterization.  This work will be done with support from supervisor and involve collaborating with technicians, R&D engineers, and application engineers to support data analysis for experiments conducted by self or others.  The candidate will be working with programs such as Excel and other relevant data analytics software like Python.

Technical Reporting & Presentation:

Retaining research progress and knowledge through written technical reports and engaging presentations for review with management.  Reports and presentations capture theory and experimental conclusions while providing recommendations to achieve project goals.
