Roles and Responsibilities
As a Research engineer, you will:Conduct power system research involving modeling and simulation of electrical components and networks, design of protection, stability, faults and controls, and test lab scale circuit Simulate and analyze electrical power systems consisting of electromechanical systems, renewable generation, conventional generation and controls.Develop algorithms for power system optimization, generation scheduling and dispatch for grid connected and microgrid systemsDevelop and implement in hardware advanced controls of electrical system.Collaborate with both GE Vernova product engineers and Advanced Research team members on technical projectsWrite and orally represent the research to its business customers and at technical conferencesWork with multi-disciplinary boarder team or independently deliver based on the requirements of projectDeliver on technical projects with set timelines and costGain an in-depth understanding of key business drivers and use this understanding to accomplish own work. Gain an in-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.Use some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Use prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Have access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions.Have proven interpersonal skills and provide informal guidance to new team membersRequired Qualifications
Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with atleast 1 year of experience or a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with at least 4 years of industry experience in an advanced technology development environment designing, building and testing power electronics and controlsStrong expertise in simulation and analysis of electrical systems and electro mechanical systemUnderstanding of grid energy management systemsUnderstanding of power system dynamics, transients, protection and controls Hands-on hardware design and build experience in power systems experimental set-upExperience in system simulation tools such as PSCAD, Matlab/Simulink etc.Excellent communication and presentation skillsAbility to work independently as well as in collaborative team environmentUnfailing dedication to deadlines and commitmentsDesired Characteristics
Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs. Established project management skills.Experience in Wind Electrical system, Converter, converter control and grid integrationExperience in power converter and control for high frequency high power applicationsExperience in Python, C++, Visual StudioUnderstanding of Signal ProcessingExperience in Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) applications to Power Systems is an added advantage
