Job SummaryAs a Research Specialist, you shall draw on, and develop your specialist knowledge to deliver focused research and development in the TRL1-6 range and in demonstrator and insertion projects. You will make use of and develop your knowledge of our strategical products and technologies. You will have a logical and methodical approach to planning technical work/experiments. You will be able to discuss and develop complex technical principles and concepts as part of a broader technical team.
Job Responsibilities You will seek to understand the strategic direction of your specialist field and the strategic direction of our products and key technologies.
You will support planning of technical work. You will contribute to Technology Development Plans and Technology Business Cases related to your specialization field.
You will demonstrate a commitment to innovation and technical quality in your specialization field - leading to high quality Technology Readiness Level gates, Notional Type Designs and/or Design Reviews.
You will support any necessary 'hands on' development test work and development trials.
You will be responsible for originating and issuing high quality and detailed technical documentation.
You will be expected to review technical report
You will be expected to supervise interns and master thesis students when required.
You will support on-boarding of new employees in your area of specialization
You will drive maturity of technologies in your specialist field, and undertake technical problem solving in your specialist field, including support with operational issues from time to time.
You will develop and maintain long-term ecosystem relationships in your specialist field for the benefit of the projects, aligned with the company strategy and direction from the Chief Technologist(s).
You will ensure adherence to environmental health and safety (EHS) policies and procedures for your activities, and you will contribute to a proactive EHS culture in the wider team.
You will contribute to the development of GKN as a 'Great Place to Work', aligned with the core principles - safe, innovative, open & honest, care & respect, and ownership.
Education
• Qualifications:
Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or aerospace related field, with 5+ years of experience
• Skills and Experience:
o Experience in finite element simulation methods and techniques.
o Experience in FE modelling of assemblies, subassemblies & components.
o Experience in stress analysis and fatigue analysis.
o Good knowledge of FEA commercial tools, preferably ANSYS Mechanical (APDL) & ANSYS Workbench.
o General engineering knowledge of metallic and composite materials and manufacturing processes.
o Experience in python programming.
o Experience in concept development, evaluation & selection for new product & technology development, knowledge of TRL-scale
o Experience in hardware demonstrator development for new products with testing requirements and general understanding of manufacturing process
• Desirable:
o Experience in the product development of structures for commercial jet engines.
o Experience in dynamical analysis of rotating machinery
o Experience in topology-optimization for concept optimization
o Experience in technology development and TRL-scale for aero engines
