Within the Department of Head and Neck Surgery, we have experts in the field of oral oncology that care for patients afflicted with cancer of the head and neck and other sites where treatment and post-operative side effects can have a significant impact on a patient's oral cavity health. As such, our department offers a unique opportunity for dental students to engage in cutting-edge clinical care and research focusing on the intersection of oral health and oncology. The program emphasizes understanding the impact of cancer treatments on oral health, exploring innovative diagnostic methods, and contributing to multidisciplinary approaches to improve patient outcomes.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Research Training: Conduct supervised research on oral oncology topics such as oral cancer pathobiology, treatment side effects, and preventive care strategies, among others.
Skill Development: If applicable to the position, the candidate will gain hands-on experience in laboratory techniques, data analysis, and scientific writing.
Knowledge Expansion: Participate/Attend seminars, journal clubs, and case presentations to deepen understanding of oral oncology.
Outcome Presentation: If applicable, summarize and present research findings at departmental meetings or external conferences, with opportunities for co-authorship in publications.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Applicant must hold a bachelor's or master's degree (obtained recently within one year).
Active enrollment in a dental school is not a requirement.
Prior research experience is advantageous but not mandatory
