Job Summary
This is a full time (40h/wk) technical research assistant position in a cancer research lab focused on a rare, incurable, and lethal cancer or adolescents and young adults called NUT carcinoma. Your responsibilities are broad and include performance of experiments (cell culture, cell transfection, western blotting, RT-PCR, PCR, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, CRISPR screens, CUT&RUN, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)), lab maintenance, and safety. This job is intense, but you will learn a lot more skills than many other labs because we are quite small. Benefits will be exposure to the clinical and scientific aspects of a very serious, life threatening illness, and diverse laboratory bench research experience. Often (not always), there is a chance to be an author on a publication. Our track record is 90% success for those applying to graduate (4/4) or medical school (5/6).You need at least six months of professional bench top research experience to apply, not including classroom laboratory time. Qualifications
Education
Completed a Bachelor’s degree.
Experience
Prior laboratory experience, either through academic coursework, internships, or employment. You need at least six months of professional bench top research experience to apply, not including classroom laboratory time. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
1. Under close supervision performs basic research experiments, including cell culture, cell transfection, western blotting, RT-PCR, PCR, qRT-PCR, immunoprecipitation, BioTAP-XL proteomics, immunofluorescence, fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), flow cytometry, RNAseq library preparation, high-throughput dosing to evaluate dose-response to novel compounds, following established laboratory protocols.
2. Assists with the analysis of experimental data, using basic statistical methods.
3. Trouble-shoots technical challenges.
4. Demonstrates initiative and multi-tasking to efficiently complete experiments.
5. Maintains basic records of methodologies and test results in a log of work performed.
6. Prepares written reports on data, as appropriate.
7. Performs literature searches as directed.
8. Assists with the maintenance of a clean and orderly laboratory.
9. Maintains established department policies, procedures and objectives, including the areas of quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
10. Performs all other duties and responsibilities as directed.

Must be able to maintain a neat and orderly work environment.
Normal laboratory environment.
May be exposed to human blood and tissues, and potential occasional use of suspected carcinogens, all under controlled conditions. Minimal risk when established protocols are followed.
