Research Manager

IRC/Airbel Summary:The IRC is working to improve the safety, health, education, economic well-being and power of people in crisis affected places. 
Sitting within the Airbel Impact Lab, the IRC’s research and innovation team, and working in close coordination with the Economic Recovery and Development (ERD) Technical Unit (TU), the Climate Resilience Global Research & Innovation Priority (Climate Resilience GRIP) team generates and adapts solutions to increase the resilience of agro-pastoral livelihoods in the areas hardest hit by climate change and conflict – with a focus on women, who are disproportionately affected by climate impacts and already face significant challenges in agriculture. We innovate within the following three focus areas: improving seed security, strengthening disaster risk reduction, and strengthening and diversifying livelihood options. Our solutions are localized to specific priority countries and will help to reduce poverty and food insecurity by enabling people and institutions to absorb, adapt and respond to climate shocks.
Job Overview/Summary:We are looking for an organized, collaborative, and dedicated research manager to drive and support research activities and synthesis of research findings across the Climate GRIP portfolio. As research manager, you will work with Airbel, technical, and country teams to i) drive the coordination and implementation of impact evaluations for later stage projects; ii) support the development of discrete research components within early stage innovation projects; (iii) support business development activities by providing key technical and research inputs into proposals; and (iv) synthesize research findings and support the dissemination of findings both internally and externally. This role requires strong project management and communication skills, a strong background in quantitative and qualitative data analysis and research methodologies, and technical familiarity with climate resilience and agricultural livelihoods.  There may be flexibility on office location. 
Major Responsibilities:Research● Along with the ERD Researcher, support the implementation of impact evaluations for projects within the Climate Resilience GRIP portfolio● Along with the ERD Researcher, and in collaboration with designers, behavioral scientists, country program staff, and technical staff, drive the development of theories of change and support the development of research questions for early stage innovation projects within the Climate Resilience GRIP portfolio● Assist in developing research instruments, conducting data collection trainings, monitoring progress of research activities, analyzing research data, and writing research briefs/reports under guidance of the ERD Researcher, and with the support of the Advisor, Climate R&I● Provide project management support to research activities embedded within Climate GRIP projects● Collaborate with internal and external research partners to ensure successful implementation of research projects● Support the Climate Resilience GRIP team in securing ethics approval for research and innovation projects and ensure that all projects adhere to ethical requirements and IRC quality research standards● Along with the Portfolio Lead, Climate R&I, support ongoing integration of Strategic Foresight methodologies across the portfolio strategy and early-stage innovation projects by conducting supplementary research and aligning findings with Strategic Foresight frameworks
Business Development● Serve as a technical lead for the Climate Resilience GRIP on business development activities● Advise on alignment of existing projects across the Climate GRIP portfolio with business development opportunities● Provide research and technical inputs into proposals and other business development collateral
Policy, Advocacy, & Communications● Support the ERD Researcher and Portfolio Lead, Climate R&I in research synthesis, preparation and coordination of dissemination activities including internal and external presentations, briefs, advocacy products, peer-review journal articles, community-based dissemination events, and blog posts

Job Qualifications:Education / Work Experience● Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Research Methodology, Economics, Social Sciences, or related field● Minimum of 2-3 years' experience supporting or conducting climate resilience related research projects, preferably in humanitarian or development settings
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies● Fluent written and spoken communication in English. French, Spanish, or Arabic proficiency or another IRC working language is strongly preferred. ● Solid understanding of quantitative and qualitative research designs and methodologies. Knowledge of R or Stata is required. Experience or familiarity with participatory research methods is an advantage!● Experience organizing and implementing quantitative and/or qualitative data collections. Ability to identify and troubleshoot data quality and research implementation issues. ● Knowledge of research ethics such as informed consent and data protection. Experience securing ethics approval and research permits strongly preferred● Experience generating advocacy and communications products for a range of external audiences, including translating technical and research materials for non-technical audiences● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills involving listening to, interacting with, and communicating clearly with people from diverse nationalities and backgrounds with a high degree of professionalism and pro-activity● Excellent organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to coordinate and deliver complex projects with distributed stakeholders● Ability to work efficiently under remote team and management structures and coordinate with internal and external partners
Compensation:Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
