Research Nurse

Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Principle Investigator assist in clinical research and other public health activities involving LGBTQ health HIV care and prevention other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) community engagement sexual health and health disparities. Research and public health activities may include recruitment enrollment survey administration data collection and management and other similar activities. Other job activities include assisting with partner notification services and patient navigation. May administer medications or perform other related functions as part of study requirements.

 

Responsibilities:
Assist the Nurse Practitioner with partner notification services including identifying sexual contacts of STD clinic patients to inform them of recent exposure to an STD. Counsel recently exposed partners and refer to testing and preventative services.


Maintain records of patients lab testing(s) and degree of compliance according to protocol policy.  Collect and record all data necessary for reporting to sponsor(s) and other regulatory agencies as necessary.


Assist with clinical research studies and delivery of study protocols which may include recruitment enrollment administrative duties survey administration and data collection and management.

Provide support for manuscript preparation and presentation of research results.


Work independently as well as in collaboration with a diverse research and clinical team and navigate within a large interdisciplinary hospital-based system.


Perform other related duties as required.

 

Other information:

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Graduation with a Bachelor's degree from an accredited School of Nursing.
Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island.
Excellent ability to gather and synthesize complex information strong writing skills and demonstrated attention to detail required.
Strong personal initiative as a self-starter required including demonstrated ability to work independently and motivation to learn.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.


EXPERIENCE:
At least one year on-the-job experience as a staff nurse in an area related to the specific research project in order to gain professional skills to function with little direct supervision.
Prior research experience preferably in public health or related fields preferred. The candidate must possess attention to detail and be self-directed.
Candidate should have meaningful experience serving communities of color LGBQ and transgender communities and other structurally oppressed populations or enthusiastic desire to gain such experience; strong interpersonal skills with diverse populations.


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Some exposure to patient care environments.
Some walking between patient care areas. INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Performs independently within the departments policies and practices.  Refers specific complex problems to the supervisor when clarification of departmental policies and procedures are required.

None.
