DC-MUSE (www.dc-muse.org) is a research network that aims to catalyze the decarbonization of the chemical industry by innovating chemical manufacturing processes powered by sustainable electricity grids. The DC-MUSE Research Scholar will play a crucial role in advancing the center’s research agenda and fostering collaborations among DC-MUSE students. Reporting to the Center Director (Prof. Andre Taylor) and receiving guidance from a multi-disciplinary team of faculty, the Research Scholar will contribute to accelerating research and building community across and beyond the network. Ideal candidates will have a strong interest in the development and integration of electrochemical or plasma technologies into future chemical manufacturing plants powered by renewable-rich electricity grids. This position is ideally suited for those interested academic careers who strive to be future faculty leaders in areas related to the decarbonization of the manufacturing sector. The scholar will receive mentorship to develop skills for a future faculty career (presentation skills, proposal preparation, student mentoring, and teaching). They will also be provided guidance through the faculty application process, and be nominated for high-visibility awards and speaking opportunities. Research tasks in the areas of electrochemical engineering, plasma synthesis and/or systems and grid modeling will be co-developed between the candidate and appropriate faculty members of the DC-MUSE network. Responsibilities: The Research Scholar will be responsible for the following activities: + Conduct collaborative research: The Scholar will engage in collaborative research projects within the DC-MUSE network, working alongside multiple Principal Investigators (PIs). Initial projects will align with the Scholar’s expertise and build upon ongoing DC-MUSE projects. + Participate in mentorship and community engagement: The Scholar will provide mentorship to DC-MUSE Ph.D. students supported by the grant. This includes working with the Managing Director on community engagement activities, including a bimonthly student-run seminar series for relevant members of the DC-MUSE PIs' research groups. + Prepare and give presentations: The Scholar be expected to present their research at various institutions within the DC-MUSE network. + Proposal preparation: The Scholar will participate in proposal preparation activities for DC-MUSE. The PIs will ensure that the Scholar’s engagement in proposal writing activities is limited to less than 10% of their time. Additional Information: + This position is expected to be for less than a year. + The Research Scholar will be hired by New York University and will have affiliations with other institutions as required for their research. + This position offers exposure to a broad network of faculty mentors across multiple institutions, enhancing visibility and career development opportunities. Salary Range: In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $62,500 to 64,063 depending on the candidate’s experience and qualification. + Hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g. Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, etc.) + Demonstrated expertise and research experience in areas aligned with the DC-MUSE research agenda. + Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills. + Excellent communication and presentation abilities. + Commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia. + Interest in pursuing an academic career.
