The Division of Infectious Diseases and International Health is seeking a talented, highly motivated, and passionate Research Scientist to work in the lab of Dr. William Petri. The individual will join their interdisciplinary team, focusing on Clostridioides difficile infections and innovative treatment strategies. Candidates will engage in projects involving bacterial pathogenesis, host-microbe interactions, innate and adaptive immune response, and vaccination strategies for the infection. The role requires collaboration, experimental design, and effective communication. Strong candidates should have a proven ability in scientific writing and presentations.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
Perform assigned tasks independently.Possess a strong background in their specific field.Lead small groups effectively.Work autonomously once objectives and methods are established.Research - The research component of a research scientist includes scholarly publication, attending academic conferences, and obtaining grants. More senior scholars often take leadership roles in scholarly associations and act as editors, board members, and referees for grant-giving organizations, academic presses, and scholarly journals.Service- University service involves membership in departmental, college-level, and university committees, attending departmental meetings, student recruitment, and processing routine paperwork such as filling out reports, answering emails, participating in surveys, and voting in university elections.In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Requires a doctoral degree in Biotechnology or Microbiology or master's degree with significant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of experience in an Infectious Diseases laboratory using animal models of infection, preferably with Clostridioides difficile experience. Candidate should have demonstrated ability in all aspects of experimental work, including unsupervised planning, execution, data collection, and analyses.Strong communicator who works well in a team setting.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Basic science knowledge using advanced techniques in one or more fields encompassing molecular biology, immunology, FLOW, ELISA, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, cell culture, experience with mouse models, mouse breedingComputer skills for data analysis and interpretationProficiency in Windows, Office, AdobeSuite applications, GraphPad Prism or other statistical software, and ImageJ.PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a lab-based job, requiring experimental, as well as analytical skills. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
