Job Description
 

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join our Inflammation in vivo group at Gilead Sciences. The candidate will be responsible for daily execution of in vivo pharmacological studies to support pipeline and research advancement associated with autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, such as IBD, arthritis, and fibrotic diseases. Hands-on experience and substantiated knowledge with preclinical models of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases is required. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, generating and communicating pharmacology data of preclinical models internally to support inflammatory target discovery for autoimmunity. 

A successful candidate should be highly proficient in routine murine handling techniques including but not limited to IV, IP, PO, SC, retro-orbital bleed, and terminal cardiac sticks. Harvesting and processing tissues for ex vivo analysis is also required. The ideal candidate is able to independently execute in vivo studies from start to finish and can contribute to new model development to support our programs.

A strong collaborative spirit and great communication skills are needed to be successful in this role. The candidate should be detail-oriented and highly organized to cope with the multi-tasking environment. The candidate will be willing to learn and grow both in technical skills and knowledge basis to adapt to the dynamic character of industry research.

Primary responsibilities:

Designing, conducting, analyzing and reporting in vivo studies (efficacy, PK/PD)

Pre-clinical model development, optimization, and characterization

Interface with cross-functional project team members, and participation in and presentation at project team meetings and cross-departmental team meetings

Qualifications & prior experience:

Bachelor’s or master’s degree with 12+ years of industry experience in in vivo pharmacology with a solid understanding of inflammatory disease pathogenesis preferred

Hands-on experience in mouse models of inflammation such as collagen induced arthritis, Ovalbumin induced asthma, experimental colitis, and various fibrotic models (Bleomycin, CCl4 etc). Experience with bacterial infection models and humanized mice is a plus.

Proficiency with various mouse handling techniques including dosing (IV, PO, SC, IP), preclinical manifestation scoring (e.g., joint swelling, paralysis), and collection and handling of tissues during necropsy and processing for ex vivo analysis

Excellent organizational and communication skills, along with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment

The ability to work independently on day-to-day responsibilities and research goals as well as in a team-oriented environment

Familiarity with cellular, biochemical, histological and molecular biology assay techniques such as ELISA, flow cytometry and qPCR is preferred


 

The salary range for this position is: $143,225.00 - $185,350.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
