PhD trained neuroscientist with previous experience in brain slice electrophysiology and/or in vivo electrophysiology in the study of synaptic circuits and plasticity in rodent models of disease. Projects include neurodegeneration (Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease), epilepsy, and fundamental neuromodulation of synaptic transmission, across several brain regions. Expertise in behavioral assays, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, confocal imaging and/ or intracranial surgery is a plus.
Duties: The Research Scientist will work closely with the Sr. Scientist, Lab Manager, trainees, and Dr. McMahon. This person will be directly involved in planning, directing, and executing ongoing funded research projects using rodent models. This individual may also be involved in developing new areas of research and new techniques for future studies as needed. The Research Scientist will participate in training students and post-doctoral fellows in electrophysiology and other techniques, together with the Sr. Scientist and Lab Manager. The Research Scientist will lead their own research project and will be responsible for data collection, analysis, and manuscript preparation. The Research Scientist will also work together with the Sr. Scientist and Dr. McMahon in grant development and writing. The Research Scientist will present data at weekly lab meetings and will attend national and international conferences.

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
